NYKA+Sonic Ruins are a duo making music and music videos centred around the intersection of neo-slavic and techno futurism. Nyka's vocals weave through cinematic dark-wave soundscapes, selectively employing and abandoning harmonic and sonic conventions - favouring experimentation and the off kilter.

 

After graduating from Europe's esteemed music academy, Nyka resisted academia's strict adherence to tradition, instead crafting her own unique untamed vocal style, rooted in her ancestry - euphoric, melodic and chaotic, whispering and soaring -modernising ancient pagan soul-singing.

 

Reflecting on her style, Nyka shares, “Voices of my ancestors cry through me”. She sings in 'idioglossia', an invented personal language. Nyka (vocals, violin) composes melodic lines and Sonic Ruins (Michael Andre - synths, strings, vocals), plays on, arranges and engineers the tracks.
